Here is a list of children’s television episodes that explore pollution, climate change, endangered species, and other environmental issues. This list is largely curated by my son, who is always super enthusiastic and excited to tell me all about these shows. “Put it on your blog, Mom,” he says. So, below is the list to which I’ll continue to add titles. [note: The season and episode numbers are sometimes different on various sites, so always search for the title.]
The Octonauts, Octonauts and the Pelicans, Season 3 Episode 6
In general, this show features good information on the ocean and marine life. In this episode: “When a floating patch of rubbish endangers a flock of pelicans and other sea creatures, the Octonauts and the pelicans work together to clean it up with the Octo-Bin, even during a feeding frenzy full of swordfish.”
Nature Cat, Muck Amok, Season 1 Episode 3
This series features the exploration of the natural world. In this episode: Squeeks’ cousin Marvin needs big-time help, right away! His marsh home is in danger of flooding caused by trash and litter. Nature Cat and his pals are called to investigate and figure out how to stop the flooding before more animals lose their homes.
The Deep: The Race, Season 3 Episode 9
Description of show: The Nektons are a family of underwater explorers who discover the hidden secrets of the oceans, including sunken cities, sea creatures and pirates.
In this episode: “Ant thinks he can swim faster than the fastest fish in the sea, but a deadly oil spill slips him up” and affects the fish around him.
Wild Kratts
This show is one of my son’s favorites and he learns a ton about wildlife from it. It features “the adventures of Chris and Martin Kratt as they encounter incredible wild animals, combining science education with fun and adventure as the duo travels to animal habitats around the globe.” My son recommends the entire series.
