Recently, I was looking online to order some 100% organic cotton muslin to make handkerchiefs, and I discovered an online fabric store called Organic Cotton Plus. They are a sister company of an organic cotton farm in Northwest Texas. From what I can tell they’re a good company and they have certifications such as the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), which is a good certification when it comes to textiles!
An accidental discovery
But I accidentally found this Basic Pillow Kit made from organic cotton sateen and organic raw cotton. And just recently I’d been learning about all of the potential toxins we breathe in 8 hours a night from commercially produced pillows. I was looking into buying all-natural pillows for our family when I found this kit! All-natural/eco-friendly/toxic-free pillows come in a variety of styles and materials and because they’re made with quality materials, they’re very expensive. So I bought the kit in toddler size, and if it works out for my son, then we’ve just saved a bunch of money!
The Kit

It arrived last week. The organic raw cotton did come in plastic, unfortunately. I plan to ask the company if they can ship it in a paper bag instead next time, but for now, I’ll reuse that bag for trash when I do my next litter pick up.

The raw cotton was soft and natural smelling.
It was a very simple pillow, easy to assemble!
Here’s the final product:

This kit is great for even beginner sewers. Advanced sewers might think “Why do you need a kit or instructions for a pillow? They’re so easy.” And that’s true. I consider myself to be an intermediate sewer, but the kit was helpful because it gave me the exact amount of raw cotton stuffing I needed for the pillow, and clear instructions, making it quick and easy. And the price was a good deal for all that raw cotton.

I’ll update this review a few weeks after Christmas and let you know if my son likes and uses the pillow or not. I might be making the standard size ones for our queen bed as well if he does like it!
Oh, and I did order the organic cotton muslin as well, in two different colors. The material is so soft, which is good since I’ll be making handkerchiefs soon! I’ll be sure to write a post on that as well. As always, thank you for reading.
